it continues to restart after hd replacement

after replacing hard drive (brand new) the 30 GB iPod continue to restart display the sad face is not reconised by computer and cannot get in to reset mode.

could it be a bad new harddrive or is the cable bad

or the mother board messed up

In most cases, the sad iPod icon indicates a hardware issue. If you are able to force iPod into Disk Mode, then it may not be a hardware issue, and you should try to restore your iPod with the latest software.

If you cannot force your iPod into disk mode and restore it, then your iPod is in need of service.

Check that all of the cables are ok, try running it without the hard drive, and see if it does the same thing, and if it does, then the cable is probably bad, and if a new cable won't fix it, then, try checking other connections such as the click wheel, display, and make sure the motheboard is properlly seated.

Are you sure the HD is compatible with this model of iPod?

try resetting the iPod also.
