History

joelbasa - did you get it going? was it a worthwhile upgrade? I have the same machine and am considering doing something similar. Maybe I'm better off putting that $100 towards an entirely new machine.

This drive may be a 3 GB transfer rate drive and your machine may only see a 1.5 rate drive. See page 3.2 of this manual and place jumpers on the left two pins of the jumper block to slow it to 1.5: http://www.seagate.com/staticfiles/suppo...

I did not yet get it to recognize the drive. ifix it said it may be due to a problem in my logic board. I will be sending it to a professional this weekend to diagnose the issue. I will edit this posting when I find out if it is a logic board issue or compatibility issue despite ifixit assurances of the device working on their test bench.

I am dealing with the same issue, with the same drive, only difference here is that I have the 17inch A1212. Looks like you can't exceed a 500 GB drive. Found this answer here: http://www.mac-forums.com/forums/apple-n...

Just ordered the 500 GB 5400 version (as i read that I may not even see the speed difference between that and the 7200 with my model Mac) and will install tomorrow...i'll post if it's succesful.
