problems with installing the top case

Hi I am trying to install a new top case on my macbook, so am busy removing the screws as per the directions given on this site. So in Step 6 the middle screw does not want to come out; and also the first screw in Step 9. Can someone please assist me with getting these screws out please? I am using the Phillips #00 screwdriver as instructed.

Many thanks

Verne

When the screws are removed for the first time from a computer you need to have the right tools (screwdrivers) and apply a little more pressure to remove them cause they are are stuck in the threads by a blue adhesive called loctite which is a threadlocker stuff. It prevents accidental loosening due to use and vibration.

Thank you for the response, but this computer has never been opened before so how is the screw stripped? I have never done this before its the first time I am doing this so I dont understand. Do I really have to buy this screw extractor set for two screws, isnt there an easier or cheaper way pleeese? Thanks

I only know what you told me. Either you don't have the proper screwdriver, or it's frozen/stripped. Having the right tool for the job makes all the difference in the world.

I found out by accident that a larger diameter screwdriver handle really makes a difference in how tight I can get screws. The one on this driver set tightens or loosens those hard to budge screws much better than the smaller handles do and is pretty cheap: [linked product missing or disabled: IF145-028]

I am using the screw driver prescribed by this website for working on taking the top cover off the macbook - phillips 00# screwdriver.

thanks to all of you for the help. I have been told that a screw extractor is not easy to use. Is there any info on how to use a screw extractor? I used a phillips 00# screw driver to take out screws initially. Now some of them wont come out so I was thinking of buying the screw extractor. So can any of you help me with this please or should I just buy the 26 Bit Driver as I might be able to take out the screws with that?

Many thanks

Again - it's the diameter of the handle that makes a lot of difference in the amount of torque that can be applied to these small screws. If I tighten one down well with the driver first mentioned, I cannot get it out using say the driver from this kit: [linked product missing or disabled: IF145-022]

I gather that you all know by now that I am a female hence I dont know about these things. So would you advise that I get the 26 Bit Driver Kit or Screw Extractor Set please?

thanks

by

I do not recommend using the extractor kit. You already know what I recommend, the 26 bit kit is only $14.95.
