Lock button not working, volume does though

I have run into this a couple of times, I have been replacing the screen and then the lock button does not respond. I did not get any class in there and the cable appears to be fine especially since the volume buttons work fine. I have been doing these for a while and this has only happened since I bought metal spudger tools, any idea what is going on?
