Dead spot on touch screen?

History

My iPod Touch 2nd Gen., 8GB has a dead spot on the touch screen. It only happens when the screen is held vertically, it's about half way down the screen and it goes all the way across. The picture is fine but its unresponsive in that one particular strip. The weird thing is that its fine when the screen is rotated to the horizontal mode...no blank spot. The problem is that there are a few menu options that I cant adjust because of the blank spot; these menus wont flip when held horizontal. Any ideas?

Oh yea and the screen is NOT cracked at all.

If there is varying functionality based on device orientation, my guess would be that there is a connector problem. Any hard hits or drops that may have dislodged anything? If so, try opening it up and checking to make sure the digitizer connector is undamaged and fully seated.

Phillip Takahashi,

Are the unresponsive areas always on the the same spot? I do agree with Phillip and you should check the connectors first. Ultimately I am leaning toward you having to replace the digitizer.

oldturkey03,

No drops that I know of but my kids play on it all the time so it's a definite possibility. Yes, the unresponsive area is always in the same spot when the screen is held vertically but when the screen flips to the landscape view it's fine...no more unresponsive area. Thanks for the advice guys; I'm going to try and open it up and see if I can find a loose connection. I appreciate your comments!
