Why is voice control coming on by itself

Voice control suddenly starting coming on. I have never used this feature and I tried to turn it off.
Also the screen has suddenly started locking up on one thing, i.e.: contacts, text screen, etc. depends on what i open up after boot up.
The button at the bottom of phone does not work to close a screen or open another.
