On startup, apple gear stops spinning

My macbook pro had a dead nvidia card, so I used to oven trick to fix it. Low and behold, the screen is no longer scrambled, except now when I start the computer up the apple logo shows up, the gear starts spinning as if its loading, then the gear STOPS spinning and nothing else happens! I have tried multiple hard drives and sticks of ram, nothing. Any ideas what I can do to fix this? Thanks!
Does the machine boot from external source like your installation disk, external hard drive or firewire target mode with another Mac ?
lemerise,
Same thing, starts spinning then stops when i try to boot from a USB drive!
Steve,
Looks like the board was over cooked ??? Did you try PRAM SMC resets ?
lemerise,
I first did it with the hairdryer method and that fixed he video but stuck gear then did it again with oven and nothing changed. Did both but will try again!
Steve,
There is no such thing as the "oven trick". There is science to reflowing, no trick. Please tell us the procedure you used including but not limited to total time, ramp up time, ramp down time, method of temperature measurement, temperatures achieved, thermal shielding, use of flux, when did you move the board after the removal of heat?? The NVIDIA problem involves the Northbridge. That chip controls more than the video - it is the interpreter between the rest of the board and the CPU. Depending on how you did your "oven trick" you could have created more problems.
ABCellars,
ABcellars, this is what i referring to: http://russell.heistuman.com/2010/04/27/... This was my personal computer and I did not have another option, I recently graduated with my masters and am still an unpaid intern so I had to take the risk that I could possibly fix it, knowing full well i might be able to make it worse. I couldnt afford to send it in for 200+ and get it fixed.
