I hadn't used the iPod in several days. I went to turn it on and the screen would not light up and there was a solid vertical bar on the right side of the screen.

I tried to reset (Menu and Center button) several times. The screen would go completely blank as if it reset fine, but then came right back to the non-lit up screen with the solid vertical bar on the right side of the screen.

I tried connecting it to my computer with itunes open. It did nothing as if there was no ipod connected. I did the reset (Menu and Center button) again and itunes recognized the ipod and said "a ipod is connected that needs to be restored". I followed the restore steps for the ipod and after finishing, it comes right back to "an ipod is connected that needs to be restored". I did this several times and realized this was going nowhere.

Ideas?
