My MacBook does not shut down

History

My MacBook is a December 2008 model. Recently it does not shut down 6 out of 10 times. I ran the AHT and I have done SMC reset as well as PRAM reset. I noticed that when I am not connected to the internet the MacBook shuts down normally even if I have not quit several applications. Please note that I also have a home network using the Apple Time Capsule. I hope I described the problem so it may help you give me an answer as well as myself to resolve the problem. Thanks. Do you use Time Machine to back up to the Time Capsule? If so, I would try disabling Time Machine temporarily then trying to shut down normally.
