Is there a way to replace only the control board data cable?

History

When reassembling the ps3 my brother made the stupid mistake of bending the cable connecting the power control board to the motherboard. This caused some of the data cable's wires (toward the motherboard end) to be severed right where it's coming out of the plastic socket.

If I were to buy a Sony PlayStation 3 Models A, B, C, & E Control Board Data Cable, can I simply insert the data cable in the socket or would I have to remove the socket entirely and solder the wires directly to the motherboard?

I only ask because I notice it doesn't go into a latch like the other end does...

Do you mean THIS cable shown in STEPS 7 and 8 ? THIS part appears to be a push in cable so you shouldn't have to solder anything. The connector should be a ZIF socket (Zero Insertion Force) There is a little black/brown flap on the connector that needs to be lifted up carefully to release the cable on the control board. This is detailed in the guide. On the mother board it simply pulls straight up and out - refer THIS GUIDE - step 10

Just ensure you carefully remove any part of the old cable inside the connector before inserting the new one

Sony PlayStation 3 Models A, B, C, & E Control Board...

Data Cable for the Power/Eject Board in the backwards compatible models of PlayStation 3 — Currently out of stock.

Okay that answers my question. I was only talking about getting it out of the motherboard. I had difficultly pulling it out of the connector so I wanted make sure it was possible before continuing. Thanks.

Johnathan Johnson,

By the way, it's says the Data Cable is currently out of stock. Do electronic stores sell a similar cable or is it ps3 specific?

Johnathan Johnson,

Johnathan Johnson, I do not think you could get them at main street electronic stores. You might want to check on ebay and opt for the buy it now, or check on Google. I just checked ebay US,UK and CA and they all have some available.

oldturkey03,

Ok thanks! I'll do that

Johnathan Johnson,

A quick Google of E1447 (the number on the cable assy) and PS3 found THIS ON EBAY. No doubt there are other sources. HIH
