Battery looses power extremely fast, and cant be recharged.

For some time ago my iPhone 3GS broke after using a cheap battery cover. It would loose power extremely fast and power off instantly if you used the dock connector.

I have now replaced the entire back, including the cover, dock connector, mic, speaker, buttons, battery etc.

The phone no longer powers off when using the dock connector, but the battery is still loosing power very fast.

Is it the logic board that's the cause? (that would make me sad)

Thanks! :)

Sorry to appear like I am hijacking this question. Richdave has given you great advice and I do not mean to bump anyone :-) Before you give up, check your dock connector and your battery for any power coming in. Plug your phone in an AC charger and see what your voltage is. Also, use an ohmmeter and check for continuity on your charging fuse. Check the connections on your dock connector, make sure you do not have any overlapping contacts. Check for broken, bent contacts as well.Furthermore, make sure that you battery is for a 3GS and check on the number. There have been plenty of issues with bad batteries over the last couple of month.

More the merrier I say - as long as we get a fix that's the main thing. I may well learn something too :) And I did, I now know where the charging fuse is!

More likely the battery is duff. However, before you replace it, ensure the phone does not run hotter than expected as this may indicate a short somewhere draining the battery.

The phone is cold, so I dont think thats the case. I will try and replace the battery with my old and contact the place where I bought the parts. The plastic part that pushes out the sim card is also defective in the new parts I bought, so I need to complain any way.

Thanks a lot! :)

The shop is shipping new parts to me. I'll keep the question open until I have tried the new parts so I know wether the problem will persist.

I recieved the new parts today and the problem is still there sadly. I feel more and more sure about that it's the logic board. Do please give other suggestions if you have any.

What new parts did they send? Your original Q mentioned not turning off when using dock connector. Please clarify Does it turn OFF normally when not using dock connector?

by

A complete rear. I have swapped out everythin except the logic board and the screen assembly. It does turn off normally when not using the dock connector. Even after the phone has gone black the phone cant be charged.
