Will not power up.

History

Bought an early 2009 iMac 24 off Craigslist yesterday. Everything tested fine at the seller's office. I bring it home, plug it into a surge protector, push the power button and ... nothing. No beep, no fan, no power, completely dead.

I've tried replacing the power cord, keyboard, mouse; I even plugged it into another wall socket. No joy.

What are my next steps? A power supply swap?

I cracked open the case to check the diagnostic lights. After pulling off the case and plugging in the power cord, I was surprised to see the "power" LED was lit. I pushed the power button and the iMac started up! Very weird. It's been running solidly for two days now. I've unplugged it, powered it up and down multiple times, put it on and off sleep mode and it runs fine. I've replaced the OS with Lion and will wait a day or two longer before I install my apps and data. Could the power button have been temporarily shorted out?

You state you tried another socket but did you try it without the surge protector? If not that would be the first thing I would try. Next I would check that my memory was firmly in place. Check out those items and get back to us. If it was working at the sellers office it should be working at your house. Don't be in a hurry to change parts--lets work this out.
