Adjustments for replacing the trackpad

I'm replacing the topcase on this one because of water damage. I'm on the last step and have replaced the trackpad and working on the set screw. I'm concerned that I'm not getting enough play for the pad to click. There's some vertical play when the topcase is inverted but none when turned right side up. Even when the set screw is completely removed. It seems to me that something should be pressing the pad up to be able to click it down. Have I forgotten something?
