iPhone 4 head phone jack producing sound only on right headphone?

History

Hey all,

So I'm having a problem with my iPhone 4 headphone jack.

It's only producing sound in the right head phone jack, and either static noise or nothing at all in the left headphone.

I've checked with several other headphones to make sure it was indeed the jack.

I've attempted using a compressed air can, paper clip with double sided tape and have had no luck.

I first noticed the problem in the car when just the right speakers were on and not the left.

Would purchasing and installing a new headphone jack fix the problem, or could there be something else involved?

All answers, comments are welcome..

Thanks!!

Is your audio output unchanged when you use a docking station? It is most likely that you will have to replace the audio jack.

Have you checked your Settings yet?

Go to Settings > General > Accessibility >

then scroll down to Hearing, under where it has LED Flash, Mono Audio, and then L/R.

Make sure its centered. If it isnt, do so. If it is, you have a obvious hardware issue. My settings where panned all the way to the Left. I thought my iPhone was having the same issue until I realized this option somehow got changed.

Good luck.

unless you were willing to open the jack emisor, what i recommend to you is to buy a new piece or if it is too expensive or difficult to find buy a broken iPhone 4 on ebay, so you would have a lot of repairing pieces. sorry i can´t speak english as good as i wish. i hope i had help you.

So I bought the headphone jack/volume/silent switch assembly here on iFixit. Did the replacement of the audio jack, and guess what? IT DIDNT WORK! I'm beyond &#!^^! now. Anyway.. I guess some circuity is fried... or something. I have no clue what I can do. I guess Ill just hold out till the iPhone 5 comes out.
