How to open case with stuck rubber seal?

History

I am trying to open my iPhone case, removing the display assembly, however the it seems to be VERY stuck, so much that when using a case opener or suction cup it pulled the glass off the top and not the whole assembly. How can I get this thing apart, I have all but ruined the case opener tool trying to wedge it around the seal with no luck. Any suggestions?

I was trying to open it to clean the speaker ad try to fix the volume up button. I have previously been able to open it up via suction cup not now since the adhesive isnt holding. I just replaced the adhesive for the bottom part of the glass and once I let it sit for a bit will try the suction cup again.

dud if the glass lifts, let it, then use something metal (i use a small flathead screwdriver) to get the assembly out whilst holding the glass out of the way.
