logic board damage, hard drive swap

I have a liquid damage logic board, and a new one is $1600. I bought a "like new" same model online. It is from the same era (mid 2009), except it is the 3.0 ghz processor (which I believe is the same board clocked faster). Can I swap the harddrives and get to using the replacement laptop without having to go through any set up?

That should work but I could give a more informed answer if I knew exactly what machines were talking about. Please give the last three letters of the serial number on both machines.
