What part do I replace for a sleep button that won't click?

My iPhone is out of warranty, and recently the Sleep/Power button no longer 'clicks' when pressed, and has stopped working. Is it the metal power button that needs replaced or the electronic switch that is part of the cable? Which part actually produces the 'click'? I can't see any parts between the cable and the button where the click would normally occur, so unsure which part I need to swap out!

Any help would be much appreciated!

The button is just a...well...button. It doesnt make the clicking noise itself, but just allows you to conveniently push the tiny button buried inside the phone. You may have jammed the button actual button (the yellow bit on the cable). See if you can possibly unjam it. If the button seems to be operating freely, you need to replace the power and sensor cable.

I repaired a power button on a 4 for a client who had dropped her iPhone on the button itself and it no longer "clicked", and it also cracked the screen. The button on the inside of the phone should have a tiny orange "nub" on it which produces the click. Sometimes they fall off so I removed the cable with the button assembly and saw that hers was still there, but it would not work. Also the assembly appeared to be bent at the midpoint so I straightened it best I could and put a couple layers of tape on the button to build it up a little more. I used a hole punch to make the tape pieces round, and they fit just right. After reassembling, the button worked satisfactory.... (iPhonesfixed)
