My girlfriend knocked over the table that my laptop was on. I turned it on to make sure it was ok and the left fan was making a really loud noise. I started taking out the fan so I could replace it and the connection on the motherboard came off with the cable on the fan. Is this something I can re-solder on? Or do I need to buy a new fan AND motherboard?

Soldering a motherboard is not done lightly and I would really recommend a professional. You can't know if the fan is bad until you can get the correct power to it.
Girlfriends know who their rivals are to their man. Ask a man which he would rather do without and you'll see.
