Won't run off power adapter, but charging light is orange?
My iBook sat for a few months and completely drained the battery. It won't turn on, regardless if it is plugged in. No power/lights/si
I bought a new battery that came with a half-charge, and the computer will boot-up normally with that installed.
The power adapter light is always orange, even if there is no battery in the computer. The battery does not get charged, nor does the OS show that it is getting charged.
Based upon research, I suspect it is the power adapter, except that the light is orange. The diagnosing steps state that the charging light stays green if it is a bad power adapter.
Thanks for your help.

Use a multimeter to test the output of the adapter. Check the tip of the adapter to see if it is broken. This may be the adapter or the DC-IN board. Download and run Coconut battery to see what you are getting. Let us know your results of both tests.
I'm not sure exactly how to test the adapter, and whether I'm testing Voltage, Amperage or Resistance. The center pole as 3 separate conductors, and the outer ring, which makes 4 probe points. Assuming you're suggesting I test Voltage (while the adapter is not plugged into the computer), if I probe the bottom conductor on the center pole and probe the outside ring, the charge light goes Green and reads ~21 V. I'm not able to make any other combination of probes read any results. Regarding CoconutBattery, I'm still on 10.3.9, which doesn't appear to have a compatible version of CoconutBattery available. Is there another app I should try, or can you tell me what specific result you're looking for, that I could find in another app? Thanks Mayer for your help. -Cory
UPDATE - here's the pinout, it should be at 24 volts: http://pinouts.ru/Power/apple_tibookpowe...
