Time & date before 2001 - can't fix it -
When I try to change the date & time, the computer stack and I can't change it. I tried but the computer stayed looping and nothing happened! What is the problem and the solution?

Are you going into the bios to set these things? With XP you press F2 while booting up to open bios. The time and date are right there as first. Set them up and exit with F10.
If things are still screwed up: open "start", click "run, type in "restore" (no quotes), follow instructions.

If your able to change the date & time within the System Pref and it appeared to be altered to the new date & time in the finder. But, when you shutdown, removed the battery and restarted the system and the date & time reverted back. Your backup battery is dead on the main logic bd.
Newer systems use a capacitor to hold the settings when you pull your battery and use the main battery the rest of the time in the case of laptops.
Using update date & time over the Internet is also workable until you disconnect.
