Can you swap LCDs between different 12" iBook G4s?

History

The LCD on my 12" iBook G4 1.33 GHz is cracked and I'd like to replace it with one from an 12" iBook G4 1.07 GHz. Is this possible? Also, can I swap the HDs between models? Thanks so much for your help!

Yes you can do it and you can even use a 12" iBook G3 LCD screen if you use all your G4 cables.

There is a potential problem with replacing screens in the 12" G4 1.33.

If the existing screen is manufactured by ChiMei, then it seems that the video (LVDS) cable is sometimes specific to that screen and must be changed as well.

This is irrelevant to the 12" model, but concerning 14" iBooks, the video cables in certain models require a screen with a "big" video connector (about 2" across), rather than the "small" connector (about 1" across) that all 12" and most 14" iBooks have.

Anyway, again, just a word of caution for 14" iBook owners -- pop the back off the screen casing first, and take note of the connector size before purchasing a screen.

rdklincorporated, yes you can swap the 14" wide connector if you have the matching LVDS cable. I've done it many time using a 14" ibook G3 screen and installed it in a 14" ibook G4. The're a small mod to do to the LVDS connector that connects to the logic board cause the angle connection is slighty different but the cable connector and the mobo socket are the same.
