Does the Mini DisplayPort on this model support audio out?

History

If I get a MD Port to HDMI Adapter like this one or this one, will I get audio output via the Mini Displayport? Or do I need an adapter that pulls audio via USB or 1/8" like this one?

That model does not have audio via the MDP. You'll need an adapter to get audio.

No, you need to hook up external speakers

I'm not sure what you mean. External speakers? I'm talking about hooking the Mac Mini up to an HDTV with built-in speakers. External speakers aren't part of the picture at all. Either I will get audio output via Mini DisplayPort, or I will have to get an adapter that pulls audio from the 1/8" or USB connector. I know Apple began supporting audio via MDP in more recent models and I'm trying to figure out if this specific mac was before or after that switch. Or if maybe there is a software patch that could enable this on older Macs?
