My XBOX shuts off after a while when playing.

Could this be an early warning of the RROD? or something else? Also every once in a while the xbox will turn on with video but no sound, or I get sound and no video.

Thanks

This is my answer to Another Question:

"This is usually a pre-cursor to the Red Ring of Death, or an e73/e74 error. I suggest installing a Red Ring of Death fix kit, which should fix the problem before it turns into the RROD. Here is a guide that should help you through the process."

And you're right, this is an early warning for the of the RROD.

This is an indication about how much bad your problem will be.

Your XBOX probably is getting so hot.

In some specialized shops, there are some kits to cool your machine.

Open up the box and clean everything including the fans and heat-sinks; and Replace the heat-sink thermal paste. Dirt, dust and putting the Xbox in an entertainment center are almost always the reason for the red rings in the first place.

I agree with a precursor to the RROD, but with it "not turning on with video but no sound, or I get sound and no video" I would look at the A/V cables. Replace them first, then look at the RROD repair.
