Black screen, cracked glass, but syncs with iTunes?

History

This iPod touch shows up in iTunes, syncs, restores, etc., just fine, but the screen is totally black (no backlight). There is a small crack at the top of the glass that radiates about half-way down the device, but the screen underneath is not damaged at all. In fact, when I received the iPod this morning it showed an Apple logo. for a bit but shortly thereafter went dead because the battery was low. I'm going to replace the glass in front, obviously, but is the black LCD a problem with the logic board or the display itself? Thanks a lot!

First I would restore the iPod Touch from iTunes and see if that helps since you write you saw the Apple logo there could be just a firmware/software issue.

I have tried that already--it restored fine, but nothing ever showed up on the screen. I have also figured out that I can restart it and put it into recovery mode, so I know the home and power buttons work.

Henry Schuh,

If you are sure you didn't have any liquid spill then the problem can be related to the crack which indicates the iPod has had a blow. The LCD connector is at the right top. I would take the Touch apart and reseat the LCD connector. It could be just loose from the blow. I have seen this on newer gen. Touches. For the touch screen I suggest buying a complete screen with frame. Then you are sure everything is ok. The 1st gen. Touch is much more work then the 2nd and 3rd. Let us know how you are doing! asle,

Thank you! I tried reseating all of the connectors, and pretty much everything else that doesn't involve buying replacement parts. Since this iPod is pretty old, at this point I'm not sure I want to spend the money to fix it.
