CD drive port not working...

History

anyone know why a macbook core 2 duo with a known working CD drive wouldnt recognize the actual CD drive? i also tried an optibay and nothing there as well, so there is obviously a problem somewhere along the line of the connection the CD drive plugs into...is this something that could be fixed? when you have a CD drive or optibay installed, it takes 4-5 minutes to boot up, but when there is nothing installed at all and its left blank, it boots right up like normal. any ideas are welcome, thanks yall!

tried that too! tried combinations of different CD drives, optibays and different cables, same result! whats weird is it powers on the CD drive intermittently, but when its plugged in the computer takes 4-5 minutes to start up, whereas when its not the computer takes 1 minute.
