Mic doesn't work during call but not every time

History

I have an iPhone 4 with the mic who don't work.

it's not every time but it's the surprise when i receive or make a call.

For the moment,i see no logic on when it appears, it's seems to be random.

Have you any idee?

thx

same problem I am having... but its not the mic. You may be having the same problem too, you would think its the mic because the other end can not hear you yet you can hear them. I tried using my bluetooth and still no sound from me on the other end, thats when I realized it couldn't be the mic... I then tested the voice memo app and recorded a little memo and guess what the mic worked fine! I've read taking out the sim card may fix the issue which is what I plan on doing right after this post.

Is the problem also happening during the call (mic falling away during the call) not?

What you can try to do is a restore of your iphone.

If the problem still persists there are 2 possible hardware causes:

- Microphone is broken

- There can be a problem with the microphone on top of the iphone. The big screw underneath the EMI shield can make intermittend contact with the microphone. When it does the microphone mutes. Please check that this screw cannot touch the top microphone and if necesarry isolate these 2 with some electrical tape.

I've tried a lot of restor, problem still persist. First I'll go to change the mic For the second cause : i don't understand what you say, could you find a photo on ifixit to illustrate? thx

jcmetais,

Nine months with a broken top mic and finally, thanks to this solution, I have a fully functioning iPhone again.

Randon Kilpatrick,

Gido, excelent!!! I took the screw, put again... and my iPhone works excelent!!! tks

I solved by putting a shield between the screw and the microphone. : D
