Can I upgrade Core i5-2400S to Core i7-2600?

History

it is possible upgrade Core i5-2400S to Core i7-2600?

http://www.cpu-world.com/Compare/498/Int... has a comparison for both. Just does not look like a whole lot of improvement and checked the cost of the difference, seems steep for the difference. Good Luck

As long as both are the same mount...

*After some googling*

They are both LGA 1155, so yes, it can be upgraded.

Gabe - did you find anyone that has done this successfully? Just because a chip fits doesn't mean it will run.

mayer,

Touché. Well theoretically, if its the same bus speed, etc, it will run? I vaguely remember someone upgrading their processor from 1066 MHz to 1333 MHz because the bus was on the processor on a mac once.

Gabe,

The i7 is sandy bridge and the i5 is an older process. I wonder if there might not be firmware problems.
