Any easier to remove stand?

It looks from the photo like the stand connection is accessible after removing the hard drive. Any easier to remove the stand on this model?

Okay, I'm not talking about a cinema display. I'm talking about the 21.5 iMac. The 27" iMac was designed to be removed and had a VESA mount option, but I'm not talking about that one either.

So, does anyone know about THIS model. Thanks

The Vesa people are the experts on removing the stand. They state there is no easy way to do this one your machine. It has to be torn down or hacksawed off. Here's a quoye from them: "With regards to all iMac all-in-one models offered after these pre-iSight models, only the 24" iMac

models have had VESA adapter kits available from Apple. The 17", 20", and now 21.5" iMac models

were left having no VESA bracket kit option and more importantly, no easy method for removing the

stand. Because of this, and the fact that most people who purchase 17", 20" and 21.5" iMacs as a

"portable" computer, it was essential to develop a VESA adapter kit for the iMac that would not

require the stand to be removed or any modification to be made to the computer." http://www.imacmount.com/

Yea, I've been inside my 17" to replace the hard drive. It's no picnic, but not bad. I don't recall even seeing the stand connection, but I wasn't looking for it at the time. I think it had a logic board over it that would have had to have been removed to get to it.

Looking at the pictures of the teardown on this one, it looks like you can see the stand connector after removing the hard drive but the pictures aren't very clear. if it is just glass,LCD, hard drive to remove that wouldn't be too bad either. But I can't tell from the picture if one would have access to remove the stand at that point.

I was really hoping the person who did the teardown would see this question and could answer it from what he saw.

You do it using a card onto the stand. I used a plastic ID card to open up mine so it should work for you too.

Here is a video walk-through on how do it.

+ I remember that now but do you know what model it started with?

That video is for a Cinema display, not an iMac. The 27" imac can do this as well, but as far as I know the smaller iMac has never been able to do it that way.

http://www.imacmount.com/ also works, it doesn't require tearing it down

are you 100% sure about The 21.5" iMac (2011 model) has a non removeable stand? i will make an international fly for more than 14 hours and i was counting on removing the stand to take in the cabin luggage. There is no way i will send it in the luggage compartment. If it not removeable that could be trouble.

I don't understand the imacmount link...and how that is related to remove the stand...you just use an adapter.

Any help on this?

Thanks

You can remove it from the inside, it is not difficult if you have some pc/it skill. Following instruction found for it. I have a late 2011 21.5 A1224. The hard drive will pop out, just remove the connectors on the left, push down on plastic holder and lean out, pull up to remove. Look at the little aluminum box right below the hard drive bay, just under top of motherboard. pull the tape off the top of it and using needle nose pull up and out on the top part of the cover. Once pulled out you can see the 7 t8 screws holding the stand onto the pc.

Thanks for the info Larry! I'm attempting this on my 2011 21.5" iMac. I think you suggest pulling the cover out to expose the screws. on mine the cover is held inlace by screws behind the motherboard. If I pull the motherboard, I can fully remove the cover to get to the arm screws.
