I've been trying and searching for hours online to get the sim tray out.
none of the solutions I found worked for me.
I already messed the sim tray hole up
(it's a Gevey tray, so I still have my original one)
I ended up figuring out a solution that no one thought about and it worked like a dream.
all what I needed was a screw that I tightened by hand so it won't go all the way to iphone hole part. than pulled it.
the sim tray came out as easy as it seems.
I hope that would help someone as desperate as I was before I got it out.
good luck.

Worst case take a really thin paper clip and a pair of pliers and make a little hook that will still thread through the hole but you can angle it to catch on the back side and try to pull the sim tray out manually. I do know my first iPhone 4 the sim tray was just rough to get out period, had to push pretty hard with a firm paper clip to get it to pop out

This is new to me!
I have the Iphone 3, 3S, 4 and now the 4S. First time in using iphones my sim card tray on the 4S is stuck. I can pop the tray out with a pin all right, but it only openned about 2.5 mm and nothing I can do will pull the tray out.
I cut a piece of think plastic sheet and was able to insert the film all the way in on top of the sim card so it does not seem to be the sim card catching on the inside.
Anyone with experience popping the SIM card tray out??

I took the 4s down to the Hong kong Apple store and first they refuse to service it as it was purchased from a Canadian store! Limited warranty I was told! After making some fuss in front of a few hundred people waiting in line to get their hands on the 4s (just s happend to the launch date for the 4s in HK) one of the senior tech took it in and within a couple of minutes came back out with the tray unlocked and SIM card undamaged.
I was told if one has a Micro SIM that was a cut out from the regular SIM card DO NOT even think of putting this SIM card in your new 4s or else there is a great chance that you will suffer the same fate. The new 4s has such a tight torrance that if the cut out SIM has any rough edges you will not be able to pull the tray back out! And read the limited warranty part! Apple IPhones have regional warranty only! Something I have to consider next time as I travel all over the world on business and if my SIM card got stuck and I cannot get local service to unstuck it I will have to carry many cell phones around just for all the different country SIM cards I owned!

I manage to got it out by using a small screwdriver and two cutout sheet of paper. The paper is to prevent scratch on the side of the body. The side tray where it has the tiny hole got a little bent, but I manage to straight it out again.
I didn't use cut out sim, it was original from the operator M1 Singapore.
When I got it out the sim was undamaged at all which might means it was not the sim that cause the tray to stuck. After this forceful ejection I tried to insert and eject it several times and the tray doesn't seems to stuck anymore.

I ended up taking it abck to Apple HK store. At first they said becasue the phone was bought in the US and Apple has only limited warranty on their IPhones (vs their other products) I need to take it back to Canada to get it fixed. That was a lot of crap as I travel all over the world and if my SIM card tray is stuck somewhere outside of North Ameria I need to have it fixed right the way or else I cannot switch SIM cards as I go from one country to another.
Fortunitely it was the launch date of the 4S in HK and there were a lot of people in the store plus a few TV crews. Finally someone higher up figured out that it may not be a good idea if I am there jumping up and down with a defective IPhone 4S on the first day of their HK launch!
It was quickly fixed (seriously it took me 45 minutes of screaming at different folks and about 2 minute for the tech to take the tray and card out so what the &$^# with this limited warranty issue?). In any case, I tape my SIM cards down onto the tray just to make sure it does not get caught again!
As for the limited warranty issue that will go into my decision on my next phone purchase. I have already mentioned my experience to a few people who travel as much or more than I do, most have decided to hold off in upgrading their Iphones.

I have an iPhone 4 (AT&T) with the exact same issue for 3 months i.e. a Gevey Tray stuck inside my phone and I couldn't remove it.
I tried everything I can possibly try including unassembling the whole iPhone with no luck. I've already given up but I tried with a screw as Ron suggested above and it came out as easy as it seems! I unscrewed a small screw from my TV remote and it worked perfectly.
Good luck to those who's still having an issue with it!

My problem is that the sim card tray will slide into the phone but it won't lay flush to the phone and it sticks out just a little bit...not much at all but enough to annoy me. I haven't tried putting a sims card in yet because I am scared that it might get stuck or not work because it's not laying flush to the side of the phone.
Anybody having this problem??? HELP!
With the tray out I look inside and there is this little metal handle. I guess it helps guide the sim tray inside the phone? It looked a little bent so I just took one of my metal spudgers with the thick pointed end and gently pushed the little metal handle down some to where it looked like it was straightened out somewhat. Then I gently slid the metal sim tray inside of the phone and WAALA it worked and the sim tray is now flush against the phone and fully in place. When I bought a sim card later that day, the tray came out easily and slid right back into place. Everything works great and it is flush against the phone! Thank you for all of your help :)

i cut a small right triangle piece of paper and dipped the pointy
tip in wd-40
then i slid in the saturated paper and let a VERY SMALL amount
pull itself into cracks between the sim card cradle and the
phone frame on both sides as it was partially popped out
problem solved
popped out like there never was a problem

This was tough, but I finally figured it out. Open iPhone, loosen motherboard. put flay tool under MB and wiggle, pust as high as possible but gentle. Push MB away from frame and insert small tool in gap between MB and fram and push on tray till it goes out of the frame enough to grap it with bent wire in tray hole. Work it and work it, what choice do you have. It worked for me.

i found that all the solutions above were quite complicated. however, i found what did the trick was using a pair of scissors. what you do is open the tray as far as it goes. and then using the scissors put it to the tray as if you were going to cut the bit hanging out off. of course DONT cut it. now hold it down firmly but gently, and twist the scissors side to side and pull out. done. it was like magic :) goodluck and all the best. i was nearly eaten alive as it was a friends phone i was using.

I read all the answers on the page and the one just above using a pair of scissors looked to be the most "do-able" for a total incompetent like myself. Took less than 10 seconds - literally - and the tray was out. Put it back in and it came right out after that. Absolutely the best solution on the page!

I just wiggle the tray with pull action after that I realize that edge of the sim card is getting caught on the inside of the tray. I just put a bevel edge on all around the sim card and now work. REMINDER>> if you a have new sim card my I suggest to pile the all around edge of the sim card. I've done this to my 2nd sim card and I don't have any problem.

I've just spent about an hour trying to get the SIM tray open. It was closed so tightly I couldn't wedge anything in there, but finally, success. The solution? I actually had to push the paper clip in much harder than I would have thought. I was trying to finesse it, but it really just needed a good strong and steady push. So don't be afraid to put some muscle into it. Hope that helps someone out there!
