MBP A1150 has power and video issues

I have the A1150 and when plugging it in with a battery, the LED on the Magsafe connector (using a known working AC adapter) is very dim. I forgot the color of the LEd at that time. With a known working battery, this setup fails to charge the battery.

Upon turning it on, the MBP will chime, and will produce an image with no backlight. The image is the blinking folder icon.

What should I examine, fix, or replace at this point?

Your Book either has a failed hard drive or a corrupted system folder. Insert your original system installation disk and restart holding down the "C" key. Go to the second screen pull down menu to Utilities > Disk utility. Click on your hard drive on the left and run the repair, till it runs clear. Let's get it running and then look at your power problem.
