New screen, dead zone and no sound.
So last week I dropped and shattered my Iphone 3GS front glass so opposed to paying Apple the 200 I ordered a new front glass and replaced it myself, after doing so I have a dead zone across the 7,8, and 9 when i go to use the unlock code and the entire bottom row of my keyboard. also when i receive a call there is no sound from the ear piece and i have to put it on speaker.
Does this sound like a faulty screen or my like something else?

The screen areas of no response could be bad digitizer or Flex #2 is not attached to Logic Board properly. No sound from ear piece is a Flex #3 problem. First thing I would do is carefully open iPhone and reset Flex #3 properly, reset Flex #2 properly, and of course reset Flex #1 as a matter of working on the other two. If this does not fix them both, then regarding no screen response, you need a new 3GS digitizer. Regarding no sound from ear piece, you either need to replace Flex Cable #3 with a working one, or you damaged the Logic Board Connector #3.

No matter which way the phone is oriented the "dead zone" still exists but over the past few days I have noticed that on occasion as i text that i can hit letters in the dead zone, but they will only work once and then its dead again. i can get around the dead spot by turning the phone sideways and then only the letter "o" falls in the dead spot.
if you turn the iphone do the 7,8,9 still work or is this fault there no matter which way the phone is oriented? the lack of sound suggests you also damaged the speaker on the bottom of the dock connector, but this isn't the reason for the dead zone on the touchscreen necessarily... unless it's a software fault. try a hard reset or if you've backed up your phone recently try a dfu to see if that will fix all your problems
pollytintop,
oops, got the earpiece and speaker mixed up! brad is right on this..
pollytintop,
Opps, forgot to mention, if this is a 3GS iPhone, make sure the iPhone is OFF before taking it apart. Make sure you don't accidently turn it on before reassembling either.
