Can't Restore as not recognised in iTunes or Windows
Recently discovered daughter's iPod Photo 30GB, unused for 2yrs. Wouldn't charge so replaced battery. Not 100% sure if it is ok as iPod keeps trying to Restart itself so have been unable to know whether charged up in the usual way.
Have the Folder icon and sometimes the Sad iPod logo. I think I need to restore iPod but having problems. Have managed to get into Disk Mode but keeps making clunking noises when in this mode. Whenever I try connecting to my PC in order to Restore, it is not recognised in iTunes or PC and sometimes I get a message on my PC saying that the USB attachment ( i.e. iPod) has malfunctioned and Windows 7 can't recognise it. Have tried different usb ports and wires to no avail.
Opened iPod up and disconnected battery & hard drive for 15mins as suggested elsewhere (apparently this is what some repair shops do in China), but iPod no different when reconnected. Also, tried to find reset button on hard drive but couldn't see it anywhere. Have seen photos of other iPod hard drives where there is a very obvious reset hole. Does anyone know where it is on this model?
Does it sound like I need a new hard drive, or is there anything else it might be?
The iPod is otherwise in excellent condition and I'm very reluctant to give up if I can fix it as it's a lot of money to throw away.
Any assistance would be very much appreciated!!!
Is this a good question?
