Sound quit working.

History

My sound out of the computer is gone one day and back the next. The sound works and then cuts away. When switching on the computer, you dont hear the start up tone but sometimes the sound works once it is up and running.

Depending on the model of computer, you may need to replace either the sound card or the logic board. Also, the speakers or speaker cables themselves may be faulty.

Strangely enough I have also had bad ram cause this problem. You might try reinstalling your ram and if you have two sticks try leaving one out at a time. Ralph

I'd try resetting the PMU and PRAM as well. I've witness machines with seemingly no startup chime sound work fine after the PMU and PRAM were reset. I am assuming this may be due to sound-related settings being cleared out when the resets occur.
