Can't Adjust Screen Brightness!

My iPod Touch 1st. generation won't allow me to adjust the screen brightness, even though the brightness slider moves. I've recently taken it apart. If anyone knows how to fix this issue, help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Did it just happen when you took it apart? If you haven't yet, try a restore. Sometimes the silliest of issues are hardware related. It could be that the backlight on your particular screen has died, which would be unfortunate. If the restore fails, I'd suggest (since you've already taken it apart) looking closely over the display cable for any corrosion. You could then use some >70% (90 if available) isopropyl alcohol to swab it.

CAREFULLY.

That being said, best of luck.

the brightness is stuck on the highest setting.

oh gosh, well that's totally different. Was it like that before you took that apart?

no. i was curious which part inside controlled the brightness.

There isn't any hardware part that specifically controls brightness that you could replace, it's either the screen, the software, or the entire mainboard, because it's a touch. Seeing as how all of those except for software is expensive, my answer was to try the easiest thing first, then the next most complicated. It's very possible that the cable didn't reseat properly, or that the software decided it didn't like being taken apart. (that happens with a lot of iPods.) If restoring it and reseating the cable/swabbing it with isopropyl alcohol don't help, then I'm afraid without looking at it I can't help.
