iMac G5 smells like burnt plastic
I can turn it on; boots up but turns off after 3-4 minutes

Please open it up and inspect the cans (capacitors) on the logic board for swelling and/or corrosion. Also look at where the wire run into the power supply and see if you can see a burned area. Smell it. Here's how to open it: Installing iMac G5 17" Model A1058 Rear Panel It's very very easy.
