Faulty display after replacing smashed digitizer.

History

I recently replaced my ipod's, although smashed, but fully functioning digitizer. I bought the replacement part and fitted it following the step-by-step manual on this site (which is great by the way!).

But as soon as I started up the device after this replacement the digitizer had a gray stripe (fault) running down the left quarter of the screen (vertically) and the tracking does not respond to touch.

At first I thought this might be my error in fitting it, so I repeated the repair steps to make sure all connections internally were made, but the problem remains the same.

Might this be a faulty part or may I have mistakenly broken the digitizer on installing it?

I purchased a combo replacement screen and digitizer for a 4th gen from ebay and got the exact same results. Upon putting the old (broken) assembly back in everything worked fine.. Faulty part is most likely. How much you want to bet we got them from the same source!?

I had that issue as well. Took it to a shop and they said it was faulty part. Sent that one back and bought one from a more reputable supplier (shop wanted an arm and leg to repair). Popped in the new one, works like a charm. Got my screen replacement here.
