Needs reboot after some running time
Hi
I have a old PowerBook that after some running time grays out the screen and displays a message saying that the computer must reboot and I must press and hold down the power button.
Any ideas what the problem is? I have reinstalled Tiger on it, deleting the disk, but still I have the same problem. Can it be that it overheats after some time? I have just taken it apart and checked the fans, they look good, but I do not know if they work or not. Can it be the cooling paste that is to old, or?
Thank you

I'd try several things, try verifying your startup disk, running the AHT, checking your SMART status, verifying permissions, and if everything turns up normal, reformat your disk.
I have reinstalled 10.4 Tiger, and in the process formatted the HD, and that did not help. So I guess it is not software :( It does not seem to be related to any specific task, but more if the computer have been running for some time. Any ideas?
Oh and while running it has sometimes complained about the HD, I think the S.M.A.R.T status as far as I remember, but I always thought it would be fixed by a reformat?
You are describing kernel panics which can be either hardware or software related. Is some action on your part (using a particular app) or some scheduled action (connecting to a network for an update) causing this?
machead3,
Kernel panics can be caused by bad drives- they also sometimes occur because of memory issues, bad ram, etc. Though usually the computer will just not boot if a memory problem.
