3GS-battery in a 3G - never opened before.

History

Hi

I opened an iPhone 3G to check what was wrong with it. It was regularely turning itself off, even when fully charged.

When I opened it, the "Do Not Remove"-sticker was intact. I removed it, together with the mainboard, to see this:

"616-0347" - which is a 3GS battery. Inside a 3G iPhone? Which supposedly has never been opened before? What is the deal here?

I have now changed the battery to a 3G one ("616-0366"), and hope the problem is solved.

if you bought this from a place other than apple or a phone shop-people are devious... you can buy the do not remove stickers on ebay... by the sheet (1000?)!!

+sounds about right. After all it's a sticker :-) can't trust anybody. Hopefully the phone will be functioning to the satisfaction of the owner

oldturkey03,

Yeah that´s right! People are devious. It seems to be working alright now. Thank you for your help. (this site is great!)

Erik,

I talked to the person who had bought it, and he said it was bought straight from an Apple-authorised seller, the package was completely new and unopened. It's quite weird if that's the true story. Maybe he has a vague memory of it, and he bought it from eBay.

Erik,

Strangely have been googling for battery numbers.. differences between the two phone batteries and I've come across several places that say the 616-0347 IS a 3g battery and others have it as 3gs and still others as 3g AND 3gs!!! confused! Do the batteries look physically different? I'm just curious...

pollytintop,
