Changing to new and better logic board?

History

Hi there.

I have a MacBook Pro 15" Unibody Late 2008 2.4GHZ.

I was wondering if it is possible to buy a logic board for the newest MacBook Pro 15" with i7 processor, 512GB graphics card and put it in my MacBook Pro?

This just might work. The main problem is cost. I did find the part (661-5480) for $1299 here: http://www.macpartsonline.com/661-5480-l...

Of course you'd have to buy new RAM also. They're both A1286 machines.

However consider this, Everymac shows your current machine with a street value of $1200 - $1300.

Add to that the cost of the new board 1299 +1200 = $2499 + RAM + shipping + labor + no warranty

Cost of a new i7 from Apple (with warranty) $2199

Looks like your much better off selling your old machine and buying a new one.

hey. Thanks for the fast reply :D I really appreciate it. I found the card for $899 though. Why would I need to buy new rams? I have 4GB of ram on my MBP as of now. Again, thanks :D

Espen,

You are correct, they both use the same RAM

mayer,

AppleCare on the new machine is $349 extending your warranty for two years so I would place the value of it for the first year at $175 which you would lose.

mayer,

;D I looked into selling my macbook pro, and I might just do that and buy myself a new one like you suggested. I only need to find someone willing to buy it. Thanks again for fast and good answers. You have a great day sir!

Espen,

You found a much better price that I did on the board. So figure the difference in the $899 and what you can sell your old board for + shipping + labor + loss of warranty and see if the numbers work out for you.
