iPod Battery Broken; Will Replacing the Battery Fix it?

History

Recently I opened up my iPod to replace its cracked screen. While I was attempting to remove the battery, I accidentally punctured it and it began to smoke. I'm not sure if it was just me panicking, but I think I heard a crackle. I also closed the iPod right away (which was a bad idea in hindsight), so it got really hot. If I replace the battery, will it fix the iPod, or is the iPod shorted out?

Clayton, I think the only thing you shortened out was the battery. May be the crackle you heard was the lithium in the battery reacting with the humidity in the air. Replace the battery and see what happens. I have ruined a LCD with the heat from a bad battery before but hopefully this will work for you. Installing iPod Touch 1st Generation Battery and iPod Touch Gen 1 Replacement Battery good luck and let us know how it is going.

It's worth a shot to try and replace the battery, there's a good chance that it did not short out the iPod.
