iPod nano 5g wont power on, not water damage

I have 2 of these that has no sign of water damage at all. In fact they both are in great shape and look like they was never even dropped. I desoldered the battery on one in hopes the battery was shorting and causing it not to boot, but no luck.

Does anyone know if this model can boot with out a battery via charging cable? I know 4gs can but never had it work for 5g yet.

If I can fix these two then I will have 10 of 10 ipods fixed that I bought from eBay :). Nine 5g Nanos and one 4g nano.

Thank you for any help!

Also I have tried another screen (known working) and disconnected everything but the screen just in case something was shorting out the power. I have used both a high powered USB port on my computer and a USB charger to try to turn it on and charge it. Both have very low or no charge in the batteries. I think I read around 0.1v on one and the other was lower, but my multimeter is a little screwy and reads up to 0.1v with out being connected to anything.

I do have another nano 5g that has a good battery but a broken screen I could use the battery out of to test, but the screens have not came in yet. In a couple days I will probably swap the battery and see if that works.

A side question, does anyone know where to get wholesale batteries and screens for this model of ipod? I know about eBay, but most sellers wont combine shipping at a fair rate (wow save $0.20 per item >,<). I would be buying around 20 of each and looking to pay around $4-$4.50 per battery, and somewhere around $9 for the screens.

@Cmd try tvc-mall.com I do get my iPod replacement parts pretty much exclusively from there. Even so I deal with all Chinese merchants, shipping has always been quick and prices have been pretty good But I usually deal with the older iPods i.e. 4th and 5th Gen so I am not sure about the Nano's at all. Good luck

Fantastic website! So far every part there is a lot cheaper than eBay. In fact I think this could be where a lot of the auction items come from lol.

Thank you!

~Update~

I had a chance today to take a working ipod nano 5th gen and put the battery in one of the dead ones. After trying a few different ways to power it on / wake it up, I took a reading on the battery. It read 0.26v and the battery was charged enough to turn on the other ipod with out the charging cable. Sounds like that one has a short in the power circuit some where. Probably will be a donor board for another ipod with a bad usb port.

I have fiddled around with ipod nanos a bit and they CAN boot and fully function without any battery, just powered by a sync cable. Ive tried this on a 5g nano and it worked just like it would with a battery. It even synced to itunes.
