My iBook G3 Is Having Keyboard Issues. What Can I Do?

Dear iFixit,

I am having Some Issues with the keyboard. There are (about half of it) some keys one the keyboard that if i press nothing shows up, not another letter, nothing. I wanted to reset the iBook to factory settings put read some internet articles and i do not hafve any restoration disks, i got it used. Is there any other way to reset the laptop without erasing the OS? I do not care about the information.

Thank You

Since an external keyboard would not work I suspect your problem is hardware related. I know of no way to reset to factory settings without the operating system disk. It sounds as though something may have been spilled on the keyboard or possibly a problem with the logic board. One other easy check you can make is to remove the keyboard and insure the ribbon cable and connector are in good condition and making a good connection. Link provided to help you. Good luck.

Try an externel USB keyboard to check if the troubles are software related. Any USB keyboard will do, even a PC one. If that works you will have to replace your build in keyboard.
