LCD Backlight no longer works?

I bought a used A1286 Macbook Pro that had a few small problems unrelated to the display. I fixed these and used the computer for a few days. I later opened it back up because I had not aligned the headphone jack properly. Upon putting the computer back together, my backlight no longer works.

I have tried resetting the pram, smc, and checking every possible cable. What gives?

Thanks.

Incorrect BinaryHaze, A1286 MacBooks run an LED backlight configuration without an Inverter. Sounds more like a connection LVDS problem or a shorted backlight.

Correct D3X, there is no inverter. I feel like the LVDS cable is still good as well as the connection but I have been told it is unusual for the backlights to short. I don't mind replacing the display but I can confirm the computer works fine otherwise. I have it hooked up using displayport and it works well except for no backlight.

Is there a chip anywhere on the logic board that controls the backlight that could be shorted out?

+ If it runs on an external monitor the logic board is fine. With it going out when it did you cables and connections are where to look.

That is good news. The LVDS cable and connector on the logic board appears OK.

Make sure to check all connections. Specifically you should see a small board about 1.5"x2"(? in PCs a .5"x6" board is typical) with some mention of "High Voltage". This is the inverter for the CCFL (Cold Cathode Florescent Lamp). Sounds like it isn't plugged in.
