Getting the back off

History

I have the opening tools and have been trying to take my ipod apart to repair as per step 1 of your guide.

You are quite right that this is very difficult to open.

Do you have any more tips that are not in the guide that may help me get the pry tool in to start the process?

Use more force. You have a much higher risk of denting the cover, but that may be the price you have to pay. Try a sharp metal tool / razor blade, or file down the edge of a stiff guitar pick to get in there. Don't hurt yourself!
