[SOLVED] Keyboard half working depending on battery or bending

HI,

I bought a second hand macbook with a dead battery being told that any knock off one from hong kong would do it.

Since I received the new battery I discovered that my keyboard stops functioning for keys such as Backspace, the arrows, Caps lock, shifts with the letters still working.

If I put back the old battery it works great, if I leave just the power cable it works half and if I put the new battery just the letters work.

Finally If I put the old battery and hold the mac from a corner I get the same result as for the new battery.

Could that come from the keyboard/touchpad ribbon disconnecting depending on the pressure applied to the case?

Cheers,

Hi,

thanks everyone but the issue was coming from the mac.

I went to the Genius bar and the guy noticed the macbook was entitled to a change program for the top case (including the keyboard), an hour later the laptop was working perfectly with any battery.

Cheers,

Did they happen to give you an issue number so we can tell this to others?

I don't know for the issue number, but I think my hunch was right, the knock off battery was a tiny bit different than the Apple one and the top case (including keyboard) of the macbook was a bit loose. The battery was pushing a bit the case making the ribbon fiddly.

I've seen this happen when batteries go bad and start to swell. It puts pressure on the bottom of the keyboard causing it to fail. As with any thing in life you get what you pay for. I would return the battery and buy one with a warranty.

Here are some original Apple batteries: MacBook Battery

Here's a good after market with warranty: http://store.fastmac.com/product_info.ph...

try using an Apple battery and see if it fixes the problem.

It does fix the problem but as the keyboard seems to be fiddly I'm afraid that buying an expensive Applet battery won't keep the problem to get worse in the futur.

thanks for your answer.

If it works with the correct part (the Apple battery) there is no reason to believe it will fail in the future.

Yep worked for mine too!!! Was looking at videos on how to disassemble my mac book. They kept mentioning this site. I checked it out, poped out the battery, and sure as $@*^ it was swollen. They keyboard/ track pad works fine with it out. Thanks for saving me the time of disassembling the thing.
