Why does iTunes sometimes reset a song's play count?

History

Currently using iTunes 9 but have been noticing an issue with Play count since at least iTunes 7.

I have songs in my playlist that i KNOW have played more than 1-2 times, but the play count is 1 or 2.

Others seem ok, as they have 50+ play count, so I don't know what this random issue is caused by.

I always let the songs play until the end ;)

I think the play count only updates if the song completes. If you switch songs almost at the end, it won't update. That might not be your problem, though.
