Can't read or write to a cd

History

My daughter burned about 40 cds in one session and then the drive just refused to do any more. All it does now is make noises but will not read or write a cd or dvd.

Is there a simple fix? Am I into a new superdrive?

Edited by

That did the trick! I bought one of those CD cleaning discs from Staples, put in the drive - first time around it just buzzed and spat it out, second time round it did the business. Thanks Majesty for the good advice.

Wow!! 40Cd's in one session is an extraordinary amount of burning. She might have covered the optical drive's lifetime limit in one session!! LOL . All jokes aside, if you can still see the Optical Drive in the system profiler, then you might have a dead drive. I would try cleaning the drive with a specialized cleaner, that failing, you are gonna need a new super drive.

+ agreed. You might also consider a good external drive for $100. If you choose to replace it we will need the information on the bottom of your stand to direct you to the correct part and direction.

mayer,
