Dooes a headphone usb adapter exist for the Playstation2?

I need an adapter for ps/2 usb so I can have headphones. All I want to do is hear.

I'm not sure what you mean by a USB adapter. The USB ports on the PS2 provide power to external accessories, but the sound is sent via the yellow and white RCA cords from the back of the PS2. If you want headphones, you'll have to either plug them directly into your TV/stereo receiver, or use some sort of RCA-to-3.5 mm adapter and plug the yellow and white cords directly into that.

Actually, Logitech has a cheap (about 20 bucks at GameStop) headset that has monaural sound and a mic (not bad, either) that's specifically designed for PS2 - and as a plus, it does plug 'n play (for me) on WinXP.
