my Ipod got wet, I dried it off. Why does it only work when charging?

History

My Ipod went through the washing machine and wasn't in a case. I thought it was a goner but I put it in uncooked rice for a day or two anyways. I tried turning it on after two days and it wouldn't so I plugged it into my pc cable charger and it powered up. All my songs are still there, it works fine. When I unplug it from the power it continues to work for about two minutes and than the screen goes black. What do you think the problem is? Would you reccomend taking it to an ipod repair shop or is this something that can be fixed at home? I'm a tech wizard and so is my dad so please suggeest anything that may help.

you could open it up and try to let it dry out some more to see if that helps. I had a cellphone survive the wash but it only came back fully to life after 5 or more days of drying out while disassembled.

however because you say it works when plugged in but only lasts a few minutes on battery, I'm guessing maybe the battery has been damaged or shorted out internally or otherwise suffered an early death (unless your battery was already dead) - perhaps you will simply need to replace the battery with a new one.

but I would disassemble it, try to let it dry out further (again in rice would be good), then if it still fully functions plugged in but not on battery try replacing the battery. good luck

Whenever a Li-ion Battery gets water intrusion, the battery is a goner.... Lithium in its natural state is HIGHLY reactive to water, therefore, you loose ALL charge and ability to recharge..... Replace the battery.... (Aviation Electrician - USN)
