I've bought dozens of a 3rd party magsafe chargers on eBay that costs about $22, and I haven't had one failure, so while there may be bad ones, there are decent ones too. In my opinion, risking a bad one is well worth avoiding the damage to your bank account a genuine Apple charger will cause.

The only danger is that while there *are* cheap knock-offs available, they have a very large fail rate, and many of them are dead on arrival. There isn't any danger to your machine or anything though so you'd only be out the cost of the cheap charger if it doesn't work.

Your MacBook will take the 60W charger. There is an 85W charger for different equipment. I have not experienced any problems with using the 85W charger interchangeably except that I have a battery that seems to need calibration frequently on the older MacBook.

Good Luck,

Frank
